In order to be accepted as nomination for the UIC Innovation Awards, your application must clearly demonstrate to be based on the following guiding principles:

Applications for the UIC Innovation Awards should be linked to the following ideas:

  • The innovations have a clear and demonstrated practical value.
  • The innovation should be based on scientific research and conceptual developments in the fields of engineering, technology and organisational processes.
  • The innovation should have already been demonstrated and implemented in a technological or organisational process, having proven their efficiency, made (or proven reasonably likely to make) a significant contribution to the development of the rail sector, and clearly enhance the efficiency, effectiveness and quality of rail transport.

Please provide an overview of the innovation, using a maximum of 300 words, which briefly describes the nature of the initiative and the objectives of the research Which was the problem to be solved or the challenge to be answered. How did you carry out your research, who was involved, how was the outcome tested and demonstrated? What were the results? When was the innovation implemented or for when is this foreseen? What is its geographic scope and why is your research and innovation an example of excellence worthy of international recognition?

Please provide a description of the benefit and practical value of your research and innovation as well as the progress beyond of the present state of the art.

Please provide a description of your research and innovation project in relation to the wider context of scientific research and conceptual developments in the fields of engineering, technology and/or organisational processes overview of the innovation, relation to other previous and present research activities, projects and international developments.

Please provide a description of demonstration phase concerning your research and innovation project as well as give details on where and how the results of the research and innovation have been implemented by a member of the Rail Operation Community/ member of the UIC - International Union of Railways within their technological or organisational process, having proven their efficiency, and having made (or proven reasonably likely to make) a significant contribution to the development of the rail sector, and clearly enhancing the efficiency, effectiveness and quality of rail transport.

Applicants are invited to provide any additional supporting information they may wish to add as background information:

  • Information and documentation regarding your research and innovation project
  • Information on how the success of the innovation has resulted in additional investment or continued investment in the innovation or similar transport activities or has spread to other operations
  • Information about other organisations interested in implementing the results of your project
  • Publicity or press regarding the innovation

Any other information you may deem relevant for the application and nomination for the Award.
